Valentines day massacre at Port 0 LIVERPOOL FIVE... FlORANGES on fire... and Mane hits form ..final-ly?

What a great valentines night that was, I could watch it live, so went to support a colleagues band at the "nags head"  ... the barman remembered me from 7 years ago, couldnt remember my name , but said "Liverpool , yes?"  ... YES!

 MY opinion hasnt change much since this;
2017/10/we-are-club-you.html

even though I hate the state of the club , its boardroom directors (except for Kenny, the legend & now "Lfc ambassador") ... and dislike the mentality of many of the modern Lfc fans...

away supporters tend to be more "professional" and theres not much to beat watching the team away, however often the before & after is the best part... I was at Porto last time... but I think this performance was almost as good as any away ... although winning at Bernabeu, Nou Camp, velodrome (4 goals inc Torres Slalom) GrAZ (Rafas first with a Stevie brace) are highlights , the memories and songs are vivid and bring back so many special memories...

dont usually watch the redmen videos, too full of themselves for my taste and CP actaully wanted moreNO for this game ...but this (link) is nice and reminds me of the many "away days" I had in europe following Rafas Reds and before... I wont put a penny in the coffers of the current fraudulent infestors.. so I wont be at Anfield or on such trips unless they are gone and replaced by honest managers...

The Game ,...

which i watched after , in calm perspective, was impressive, a little bit of luck,  Octavio (?) shot deflected just over the bar by Dejans block, could have caused some problems if porto had got that early goal, but the Florescent Oranges ("FlOranges") ... were up for it,

no tiredness from the soton game until late on when Hendo, Wijn & Milly all looked slighly jaded... (Hendo replaced by Matip... which is my slight criticism of JK's "habit" of putting on a defender for midfield or attacker late on...  ok it meant VVD having more forward play ...  but as the 4 3 3 was working so well, I would have thought an almost like for Like ...ish.. Lallana needs match fitness... another half an hour may have done his game more good than a few mins for matip. (as I say this is not my idea of a good tactical "habit" by JK) ...

Anyway, pundits and fans raving , rightly , about the FAB THREE (Free?)

...yeah, ok lets call them  the "fab free"  because the are free- flowing ..but for me the whole team looked sharp, VVD for me is better twinned with dejan or Klavan..   RB Trent was in good form, looking fit and sound as was Robbo on the left flank, both put in good shifts and centered , covering and passing well...

"the Firm".,  his usual high work-rate,  .. linking play , back tracking , pressing and a smooth take of the fourth goal, also put his head into it, unlucky not to get on the end of a Robbo cross...

MANE finally found his form amd the net THREE times, and hopefully that is a sign that will continue for the rest of the season because I dont see ANY defence stopping the 3, and MO SALAH scored the 2nd killer goal as if he was playing in a "futsal" game! ;)

MIDFIELD TRIO

for me the midfield of Hendo, and especially Milly and MY MOTM ;  Wijnaldum!  put in one hell of a shift, closing down, pressing HOUNDING the porto players all over the pitch, Gini had for me a good game at Soton, but last night was one of his best , he really looked up for it.. and full of energy, almost 90 minutes of non stop running... and although SA porto goalie, should have saved sadios first goal, Wijn. set it up by charging at the home defence...

Perhaps its playing in ORANGE ..that energizes Wijn??
Soares had a half chance at the end of the first half and Karius saved well towards the end ..

other than that he was hardly tested...   even putting on JESUS C.   couldnt save Porto...

 and stats, not sponsored lies this time;

  • Liverpool registered the joint-biggest away Champions League knockout win, equalling Bayern Munich's 5-0 win at Sporting Lisbon in February 2009 and Real Madrid's at Schalke in February 2014.
  • This is Porto's heaviest home European defeat and the first time they have conceded more than three goals in a home European match.
  • Liverpool are the first English side to score five goals in an away Champions League knockout match.
  • Mohamed Salah became the first Liverpool player to score 30 goals in all competitions in a single season since Luis Suarez (31) in 2013-14.
  • Salah has now scored in five consecutive matches in all competitions, the first Reds player to achieve that feat since Divock Origi in December 2016.
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold became the youngest Liverpool player to feature in a Champions League knockout match, aged 19 years and 130 days.
  • Alexander-Arnold is the fifth youngest Englishman to feature in a Champions League knockout game, behind only Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Wilshere and Wayne Rooney.
  • Liverpool have won four matches by five or more goals in all competitions this season, the first time they have achieved that since the 1985-86 season (five victories by that margin).

"FLORANGES"

love the man, but surely a PRO should improve his weaker foot, if he does he will be truly world class numero Uno!

  5. (pre match) ........ porto v LIVERPOOL

FC Porto v Liverpool (1945 GMT, BT Sport 2)

The last time Liverpool faced Porto in the Champions League, they went on to reach the last four.

The two clubs – both winners of the competition since the turn of the century – were paired in the group stages for the 2007/08 campaign, first drawing in Portugal before the Reds were 4-1 winners at Anfield,

Liverpool have been handed the more favourable draw, with the home tie coming in the second leg and that could be vital.

They travel to Estadio do Dragao t after going unbeaten in the group stages, scoring 23 goals in just six games,
Their last 16 opponents – the only team yet to taste defeat in all domestic competitions in Europe's top leagues – should provide a stern test though.

Sergio Conceicao’s side were runners up in their Champions League group, but they are growing in confidence having not lost in their last three European outings, netting nine in that period.

Porto danger men include forwards Moussa Marega and Vincent Aboubakar, who have 43 goals between them in all competitions this term, while Yacine Brahimi is often their creative spark.

The Reds are no strangers to creativity and finding the back of the net themselves, though, with Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah bagging a combined 49 goals so far in 2017/18. The former is Liverpool’s top scorer in Europe with six

Klopp fielded a strong line-up in the weekend win at Southampton, they will be well prepared for this one. But while they may have improved defensively since the arrival of Virgil van Dijk and Loris Karius' improvement , keeping Porto quiet will not be easy. Success for Liverpool could be scoring and avoiding defeat, and Firmino can help them do that by enhancing his excellent record in the competition.

    statistics

Liverpool are unbeaten against Porto, having played them four times in all competitions (W2 D2). Their two encounters in Portugal both ended in draws.
Their only previous encounter in the knockout stages of a European competition was in 2000/01 in the UEFA Cup quarter-finals. Liverpool won 2-0 on aggregate and went on to lift the trophy later that season.
Porto have lost their last three Champions League knockout games (1 goal scored, 9 conceded).
Porto have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2009/10. They haven’t progressed past the quarter-finals since they lifted the trophy in 2004.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2008/09.
Liverpool were one of four teams to remain unbeaten in this season’s Champions League group stages, alongside Barcelona, Besiktas and Tottenham.
Only PSG (25) scored more goals than Liverpool (23) in this season’s Champions League group stages. The Reds also made more touches inside the opposition box than any other team (251).
Porto scored more goals from set-piece (8) than any other team in this season’s Champions League group stages.
Only PSG’s Parc des Princes stadium (16) produced more goals than Porto’s Dragão (15) in this season’s Champions League group stages.
Porto’s Vincent Aboubakar has scored five goals and delivered two assists in this season’s Champions League (5 games), already the most prolific campaign of his career.
In his first six Champions League games, Roberto Firmino has scored six goals and delivered three assists. Also, no player was directly involved in more goals than Firmino away from home in this season’s group stages (4 goals, 2 assists).

  7. Hendo> " We have to do that more often. I thought the lads, the whole team, were brilliant from start to finish. That should be normal for us.

You have to keep that going in the Premier League and in this competition. There is another leg at Anfield to finish the job off so there is a lot we need to do to improve but this was a good step.

Before this game, I am not sure how many teams would have wanted to play us anyway because when we are on it, like we were, we are very hard to play [against]. But that has to be our norm and we have to be consistent with the performances to get results like this. "

  8. The Reds are currently at a short break in Marbella, spending four days after Wednesday night’s win @ Porto Returning to Merseyside next week to prepare for the visit of West Ham,
Between that Anfield clash and the March international break Liverpool play five games in 22 days, averaging one every 4.4 days, similar to their congested period in November and December (4.1).
Their schedule is certainly less intense, particularly given they now have one foot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League JK ; “We made our rotation in the winter—in November and December—to be now 100 percent fit, Now we are 100 percent fit the best players will play all the time.”

Klopp highlighted the likes of Adam Lallana, Danny Ings, Dominic Solanke and Ragnar Klavan as options over the coming months, and insisted “we need all of these players., t “it’s not that I think now we will rotate before or after,: We go for everything.”
Liverpool 's run-in has six of their final 11 games in the league coming at home and only four against sides currently in the top 10.

  9. Where we are now as a club compared to where we were on Klopp Day One. Can anyone argue that we are not a stronger club now, closer to winning something significant?' ......... ... @RedAlieNeT can certainly argue that Lfc are only back where we were in February of 2009! life is too short to have henry-werner at Lfc .! Juergen isnt the best in the world, he has yet to win a major trophy (no I dont count bundesliga) if he does I will say so then! #TRUEREdS

  10. Dont see a problem, seems like a protracted article to fill the wait for the next game. Keita hasnt kicked a ball yet for Lfc, lets see him perform and if he does that just makes the squad stronger and midfield places more competitive, Wijnaldum was my MOTM @ Porto... theres enough going on at Lfc , without jumping ahead of yourself, son. :) https://www.theanfieldwrap.com/2018/02/liverpool-could-anfield-opportunity-pass-the-dutchie-or-is-gini-wijnaldum-ready-to-fight-for-his-place/

Being deeply involved in the resistance movement , pre G & H and during their removal , had campaigned, and still do ,against the odds, for a supporters owned club, as henry-werner and their billionaire backers are just as evil although smarter form of sharks as G & H! ...the foolish way so many took in NESV despite warning of the policies of USAcorp, for me administration and fund s from 08 and celebrity fans and the local cultural benefit has been over-shadowed by mis-guded opinions & media claiming Lfc was "saved" Shanks TRUE spirit has been eroded by almost everything the current boardroom does... now as Lfc challenge for european glory, 4th is an "accepted target" by the same fans who wanted Rafa out...

Lfc as I knew it from a kid on the Kop, surfed across it, losing shoes and sometimes with wet socks... pressed together in a socialist army of Red,,, away days and european trips with my brothers & sisters ... campaigning for J4t96 against the enemy in London... all this now lost in a commercially sterilized Anfield and the only remnant i see (or hear) is in the away support, still inventive, but no longer working class , none of my mates could afford todays ticket prices...

When I think back I do NOT regret that I was alienated by Lfc for my internet actions at the time, and since , I could have bought 2 houses with the money I spent on supporting Liverpool, wherever I have lived, abroad , I have waived the LIVERPOOL banner, Tuesdays result in Porto taken into account, I am no longer as proud as I once was... I was reminded about an article I wrote this time 4 years ago , when a title challenge was in our sights... 10 years and one 2nd class trophy should bring the fickle fans down to earth...

... sadly these days the sheeple are impressed more by image, as talk of JK being "best in the world" before he has won a major trophy for Lfc is ridiculous... (no I dont count the bundesliga) ...
Telling the truth is unpopular, and Shanks lives forever, but not in Lfc today, in my heart..because he made the club... and the "holy trinity" tarnished by low morals , on and off the field, where "cheating" is admired by ex players and fans...

    but who cares>?

... the inFest ors are acclaimed because Lfc is rich! ...

  12. Kenny....

25 years ago,,.the 2 faces... both deep in my memory...Difficult to know what to add, because i didnt react at the time, it took too much time for it to sink in, I recall being shocked when Shanks left.. by now I was older and had more life experience... then after some time , i started thinking about what he had handled...and wondering who could carry on, I didnt realise until much later that Lfc would never recover, and the spiritual flame of the club had dimmed that day, and apart from flickers in the years since, has never burned as bright as those years from 64...to ' 89...IMO in the eighties so much of the "beautiful game" died... and money took over, but Kenny will always be in my heart for what he did for Liverpool people and what was OUR once proud club! thank you Kenny!! be happy!
