Neither has been offered the chance to play against expansive opponents until now, instead tasked with breaking down stubborn defences drilled by understandably cautious managers. MANe versus dias is a major challenge for such an inexperienced defender, while cancelo is likely to be out-thought by MO Salah and Trent as they alternate between sitting wide and occupying the right half-space.

There is also a decent chance Robertson and Alexander-Arnold will find space to cross from deep, given that Sterling and Riyad Mahrez aren’t always the best at tracking their man.
It is more difficult to predict which attacking areas favour Man City. The loss of Virgil van Dijk is yet to be felt by Liverpool and clearly this hands an edge to Ferran Torres, once again likely to deputise as a striker after his goalscoring performance in the Champions League in midweek. His battle with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip is a crucial one.
Mahrez is the most potent threat, however. In Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Everton space opened up for Carlo Ancelotti’s side when the left centre-back – first Van Dijk, then Gomez – was pulled wide to cover for the marauding Robertson, in turn creating a gap for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be slid through. City will no doubt target this area via the movement of Mahrez, with De Bruyne the looming threat from the right wing (where he tends to hang) pulling Liverpool’s defenders too far out.
Alternatively, perhaps sterling and mahrez will get isolated on the flanks, as they have so often been this season when guardiola has gone for a safe double pivot of rodri and gundogan (which he surely will on Sunday). Maybe he’ll even spring a huge surprise, as he did in the 1-0 victory over arsenal when a wonderfully indecipherable 4-2-3-1 saw a half a dozen citeh players ferreting about in new roles. maybe JK will start – or at least bring off the bench – some of the new generation of players who impressed in the midweek destruction of atalanta, such as Curtis or hat-trick hero Diogo Jota, further confusing the tactical pattern.
That’s the problem. It has always been difficult to predict what these two will do, or what the latest tweaks will look like as they adapt and react to each fresh encounter. But these unknowns have only intensified in 2020/21 - a season defying all expectations, littering the Premier League with implausible and incongruous matches. The best thing to do is just sit back and enjoy it. ""

I
am writing this OFFline, as my wifi is disabled in an act of malicious
OBSTRUCTION by the jackals. Employed directly of indirectly by the
monster I call “USa CORP” ( formed almost 100 years ago when their
industrial might , harnessed the negative energy of stock market failure
& unemployment to build a machine , that would entually run the
debt economy , the politics, trade , the white house & all..
Growing
up with “cowboys” & later “Marvel: comics & “Star Trek” I was
unaware as I went oput in to the field with my footy mates to kick a
ball around from breakfast time , until mum tried to find me , we didn’t
let darkness stop our fun… non stop, except maybe a rare stop for food
or drink… basics, I might just go to the kitchen pantry & sprinkle
vinegar on plain bread or take a swig from a milk bottle.. and get back
to our “beautiful game”…
I had MIGRAIN attacks AS the teenage years
took hold of my mind & body, sometimes I would spend a whole day in
my bedroom with the curtains pulled to fend off the demon pain…and
although I was excellent at maths & English, (I also loved Geography
& history lessons) I missed a lot of my school, but I didn’t “miss
it” so often in the latter years I BUNKED OFF ..and when to kick a ball
with my (“naughty”) footy-mates in the back field…

monty python woke up my spirit away from the only ONE HOUR highlights
of “Match of the day” Saturday night… before itv brought in their Sunday
afternoon, commercialized version… and of the FA cup final was an
affair for the whole family & neighbourhood, & didn’t much
matter who was playing.. I watched every minute of the morning build up
until the last of the post match interviews..
and then I saw OUR boys in
’65 ..and even young I FELT the SPIRIT that Shanks installed in
LIVERPOOL which identified with me, and MUM who worked for the
co=operative community & helped Labour party elections &
conference organization explained TRUE meaning of caring for other
people… which she did until the state killed her… when I was abroad so
many years later, my older brother & his wife had stuck her in a
home, against my wishes…
The English society had already been
infested….. the Thatcher govt connected as a “patsy govt” following the
Reagan BS, as they “won the World” following the soviet collapse. …
Claiming victory OVER COMMUNISM/SOCIALISM ..However, neither the
soviets NOR the Chinese applied or understood the socialism of Shanks or
my family & community…
LIVERPOOL became the most powerful force
through music (Beatles &….) and FOOTBALL, virtual dominating from
1964 through the 70’s until the 80’s when commercialism started.. bad
karma when Shanks died, when sponsors advertised their names BIGGER than
our CLUB! ..when the hooligans from elsewhere & fan nies tagged

TV started
showing more games still only 2 or 3 highlighted programmes in the week,
only major finals got LIVE broadcasts..and then…
FOOTBALL sold its
SOUL and Lfc with it… to the “English Premiere League” and its NO
COINCIDENCE that the DYNASTY of LIVERPOOL football club also ended with
the emergence of the DIE NASTY USAcorp influenced ME dia & backers
& sponsors started to sell off every aspect of our once-beautiful
game…
UK addicts didn’t notice…I heard someone on Lfc Tv actually us
the words “get your fix” … well SLYtv overloaded the armchair fan
nies with games at all times of the weekend, and LIVE if you bought a
subscription…
(whilst elsewhere I have recorded the numerous violations by the fen way sharks…)
